A 10-room Victorian inn on the Trout River in Montgomery Center, a small village known for its covered bridges — six within a few miles. Jay Peak is nearby in winter; the Trout River and surrounding Northeast Kingdom landscape make it a summer and fall property as well. One of the more charming and genuinely quiet properties in northern Vermont.

Ludlow · Inn

A 17-room inn on Echo Lake in Ludlow, with Okemo Mountain ski area a short drive away. The lakefront setting is the differentiator — most Okemo-area lodging lacks water. A cross-country skiing, rowing, running, and mountain biking center in Craftsbury Common in the Northeast Kingdom, with lodge and cottage accommodations. Olympic and national team athletes train here in the summer; in winter it runs one of Vermont's best Nordic ski networks. Not a spa retreat — a working athletic training facility that opens its lodging to general guests. The common itself is among the most beautiful in New England.

A 142-room resort on the Woodstock village green, owned by the Rockefeller family since the 1960s. The property spans the village inn, a golf course, a spa, and the adjacent Suicide Six ski area. A 15-room inn on the Newfane common, across from the 1825 Windham County Courthouse — one of the most photographed buildings in Vermont. Greek Revival architecture, a pool, and a restaurant that's been part of the property since the 1960s. Newfane is a pristine 19th-century village that receives relatively few visitors. East Middlebury · Inn

A 14-room inn in East Middlebury with a documented Vermont pedigree — the exterior was used as the Stratford Inn in the 1980s TV series Newhart. A 38-room inn in Norwich village, directly across the Connecticut River from Dartmouth College. The Jasper Murdock Alehouse in the basement brews its own beer and has been the inn's anchor for decades. Hanover's restaurants and the Hop Center for the Arts are a short drive.
