Where to Stay in Saranac Lake
Saranac Lake is a village of about 5,000 people on Lake Flower, with a working downtown and less tourist traffic than Lake Placid. The Saranac chain of lakes spreads out around it. The lodging range is wide. The Point, a former Rockefeller Great Camp on Upper Saranac Lake, has 11 rooms and an all-inclusive rate. Hotel & Camp Saranac, a 1927 hotel restored in 2019, is downtown, with a rooftop bar and 92 rooms. The St. Regis Canoe Area, New York's only designated canoe area, is about 20 minutes north. The village's Winter Carnival, held each February since 1897, is built around an ice palace on the shore of Lake Flower.
