    Where to Stay in Waitsfield

Waitsfield is the main village of the Mad River Valley, which has two very different ski areas, Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. The village has a general store, restaurants and shops. Hyde Away Inn and The Inn at Mad River Barn are both on Mill Brook Road (Route 17), within about 2 miles of Mad River Glen, and both are in the $$ band. Hyde Away Inn was built in 1949 as the Ulla Lodge, one of five lodges built for Mad River Glen's first season, and has a restaurant and tavern. The Inn at Mad River Barn has 18 rooms across a barn, a farmhouse and other buildings, with a pub upstairs and a hot breakfast. Sugarbush's Lincoln Peak is about 15 minutes away.

Waitsfield has the village center — the general store, restaurants, and more services. Warren is closer to the Sugarbush base and has the Warren Store. Waitsfield makes more sense as a village-centered base; Warren makes more sense if ski-base proximity is the priority.
