Bretton Woods · Resort

A 1902 resort at Bretton Woods — where the 1944 international monetary conference established the post-war financial order and created the IMF. The building, a National Historic Landmark, has a red tile roof and white facade that makes it visible from the valley floor. 200+ rooms, a Donald Ross-designed golf course, the Bretton Woods ski area, and a full-service spa. The Crawford Notch landscape around it is among the most dramatic in the White Mountains. The architecture and the history justify the scale.

Jackson · Resort

A 96-room resort on a ridge above Jackson Village operating since 1879, when the Gale family first opened the farmhouse to twelve summer guests. The current building grew around that original structure — the 280-foot wraparound veranda and the 1926 hydroelectric elevator (still on display) are original features. A nine-hole USGA-rated golf course on what were once the inn's pastures. Member of Historic Hotels of America. The Jackson village setting — covered bridge, cross-country network, Black Mountain — does considerable work around the edges.

A 29-room country inn on 65 acres in Easton Valley, welcoming guests since 1863 — the current white clapboard building was rebuilt in the 1930s after fire. Views from every direction of Mount Lafayette, Franconia Notch, and the Kinsman Range. A 20-room bed and breakfast in North Conway with a direct connection to Babe Ruth: his daughter Julia Ruth Stevens co-owned the property with her husband Richard Flanders in the 1940s, and Babe Ruth was a regular visitor, staying in Room 2. That room is still furnished with the original pieces the Babe used and filled with memorabilia from his visits. Steps from Cranmore ski area.
