Where to Stay in Carter Notch, NH

Carter Notch is a high notch between Carter Dome and Wildcat Mountain, reached only on foot: from Route 16 on the Nineteen-Mile Brook Trail, or from Jackson on the Wildcat River Trail. The AMC's Carter Notch Hut sits there at 3,288 feet, beside two small glacial ponds. Carter Notch Hut, built in 1914, is the oldest AMC hut still standing and the easternmost of the club's eight huts in the White Mountains. Two bunkhouses sleep up to 40. In summer the hut crew serves dinner and breakfast family-style; the rest of the year it runs as a self-service hut, and guests bring their own food. The approach on the Nineteen-Mile Brook Trail is 3.8 miles with about 2,000 feet of climbing.
